Gee Gee’s Book Club with Christen Olivarez and Jana Holstein from Stampington and Co.

IMG_0376

Ohhhh!  Book Club was so fun this month.  We were delighted with the company of two lovely ladies from Stampington & Co., which is the company that publishes our current book/magazine, Art Journaling, for this cycle of Book Club.
IMG_0375Christen Olivarez, Editor-In-Chief and Director Of Publishing, and Jana Holstein, Associate Editor, visited with us and shared some of the behind the scenes happenings at Stampington.  They explained to us how to find out what types of art they are looking for, and how to submit.  Jana brought some beautiful artwork, to show and tell, which will be in the next issue of Somerset Studio.  (Hence, no pics!)  Christen brought several packages of magazines bundled with ephemera for us to raffle.
It was wonderful to see these ladies and we all appreciate their interest and support in our Book Club.

Going around the table from the left:  Lola, Nanci, Jacque, Kam, Pam, Elena, Gayle, Sherry (hiding), Deb, Glenna, Cynthia and Kristal
Ok, here’s the proof!  Are we having fun or what!  We are a very social group, and maybe a little messy!  Ha ha!  Look at that table!  See that clean part right in front?  That’s where I was sitting!  Hee Hee!

Yes, we are still passing the canvases.  View the slide show.  They are coming along so nicely.  It’s always fun to see what other ladies have done to embellish the canvases.

Elena tried her hand at a Julie Nutting inspired paper doll.  Wow!  Did she rise to the occasion.  Her doll is adorable and flirty and fun…just like her!
Check out the boots!

Cynthia made this colorful, pretty flower collage.

And check out this old record album bowl that Cynthia made.  What will that girl come up with next!

Pam took Julie Nutting’s paper doll banner class.  They look like sweet little cheer leaders.  Very cute!

IMG_0373
Jacque, who says she knows nothing about art, created this fabulous painting.  Everyone told her it was fabulous and how can you argue with everyone!
It’s hang on your wall beautiful Miss Jacque!

Kam made this great collage using paints and burlap.

Gayle also created these pretty doodle pages.  The color is extraordinary!

Speaking of doodles, this page was created by Kat.  She learned how to doodle in a Traci Bautista online work shop with Strathmore.

Jacque and Kam are having fun playing with this month’s Make and Take.  Here are some samples.  It’s a bird in a birdcage.  We thought these would be cute as a banner…hanging lantern style.

Cool Scrapbooks Stuff Book Club with Guest Jenny Doh

IMG_0289Here’s our Creating Outside the Book Club Crew.
Bottom left: Gaye, Peggie, Jenny and Elena.
Top Left: Chrisanne, Debby, Cynthia, Judy, Cyndi, Alma, Monica, Anne, Alicia, Tricia, Kat, Sherry and Denise.
Jenny Doh was our very special guest.  Jenny, who you may remember as the Editor In Chief and Director of Publication for Stampington & Company magazines, is now the owner of Creschendoh.com.  She writes books and has her hands in many projects all the time.
Jenny shared some of the collaborations, and behind the scenes, of putting together an incredible book like Creative Pilgrimage.  That might explain why everyone is holding the book.  It’s the book we selected for this quarter of book club…and, we all wanted her autograph.
Jenny also gave us some incredible information about her chosen charity, Project Home Ec Fundraiser, inspired by Sheena Matheiken's The Uniform Project (www.theuniformproject.com), which is raising money for Give.Water.org.  The is such a unique and Brave endeavor.  Jenny and others are wearing the same dress for a year.  Ok, doesn’t that make you want to go to her website to read more!  I checked the website today and they are at $675.  Her goal is to raise $5,000 this year.  Go here and check out this wonderful charity and don’t miss all the fabulous ways Jenny wears her dress. Go here to donate and learn more about Give.Water.org.

We were given a front row seat to Jenny’s beautiful crochet necklace. Some of us learned how to crochet for the first time. Others actually learned how to do the flower. Her ideas on what one can do with this necklace are innumerable. Thankfully she shared her YouTube video with us, which will make life much easier for this beginner.

Elena loves to prepare our kits.  Every month we receive a kit of goodies.  Some of the ladies are steadfast about creating something beautiful with the kit to share at the next meeting.  Others add the kit into their stash and use it when the need arises.  This month’s kit included a “lovely” 8”x10” canvas board, Perfect Pearls and a brush by Ranger, and several other pretty adornments.  I can’t wait to see what these wonderfully talented ladies do with their kit this month.  You may be interested in this step by step technique for using Perfect Pearls.

First create a page of doodles. Then cut the page up into pieces. This example shows the page cut to ATC size. They could be cut for cards or as ephemera for other art projects
